Well, why not? The above poem arose in response to a former co-worker who posted some meat-packer material on why they were christian.
Why this web site? There are a multitude of reasons, though it is of
course referring to the ID pseudo-theory in a less-than-oblique
fashion.
The choice on the name, and decision to register it, arose out
of a light discussion my wife (a medical scientist) and I (an
archaeologist) were having about how the human body was very badly
designed, and that if it was being produced by a modern manufacturer
it would be subject to a staggering number of recalls due to defective
engineering and construction.
What's the purpose of this web
site? Well, does there have to be one?
Maybe:
I may actually start posting studies of stupid
design;
I will poke fun at ID pseudo-theories;
I will post links to relevant web-sites
of interest;
I will comment on life, the universe,
and everything;
Notes will be made of interesting publications,
recent
and historic; and,
Type on whatever else tickles my fancy (as may be relevant here).
Why am I here? Outside
of the broader scope of this question, because I am a long-time
atheist who finds the ID/creationist a threat to free-thought.
That's a big one, eh? Why? Well, in general, I am a person who
supports freedom of thought - I don't particularly care what other
people believe: you remember the Voltaire quote, right?
But, when memes arise and coalesce to form political bodies that
restrict freedom of expression, result in cultural schizophrenia,
or seek to deceive individuals and society in general with delusional
myths, well, that's time to start pointing out some deficiencies
in these corporate fictions...
...and finally, Who am I? Well, I am a variety: father, atheist, unitarian universalist, archaeologist, and planner among them. I am Joseph Muller: please feel free to contact me (feedback may be posted).
